Time & Personel

Time Issues: Time constraints can come in many forms and one of the most important aspects to keep in mind when planning a media production. The production of a media product is always carried out to meet a deadline that is often related to its final publication. Failure to meet this can often lead to the project failing and financial loss for the companies deadline. When planning the creation of a media production, timescales are often built backwards from this final deadline. This various phases of the production are then built into planning to meet this deadline. An example of this would be the release of a film, ready for the winter holiday season. Production would be planned back from this point.

Personnel Issues: Gathering the right staff- the appropriate number, with the right skills and experience- for the media production is an important aspect of peer-production. During pre-production, the skills and experience of the personnel required will be considered.

1) A production designer is responsible for the overall look of a production, the design, rule and atmosphere.

2) The product designer would have to co-ordinate with mainly the director but also to the costume director. Can be discussion with the writers if they are local.

3) Some issues with locations in Tv dramas are having to use real locations, many of the locations are tourist hubs. National trust properties so can't close these locations.

4) Art school can be useful in becoming a set designer, work experience on sets, training courses, volunteering, observing.

5) Art director- attached to the construction of locations, drawing up plans. Painters and decorators paint the set. Set decorator- dresses the set and sorts out all the props. Graphic designer- makes other props on computer.
