First Person Shooters
First person shooters have been around for many years and are continuously dominating the gaming seen with huge titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield being some of the most notorious titles.
For the sake of this presentation I am going to be basing the typical conventions of on the campaigns.
Some of the typical things that you can expect to see from a first person shooter is that in pretty much every single campaign there is a crazy antagonist set on world domination or disrupting world peace. As they player you can pretty much guarantee that you will be playing the role of a solider that has something that puts them above others, also this character is usually male however this is changing in recent times. Games are pushing more diversity in their games, an example of this is the new Battlefield. One of the lead characters in the game is a female amputee, this caused a lot of harsh criticism due to the fact the character effects how historically accurate the game is and people argue it breaks the forth wall.
Most first person shooters are based around war or conflict (this can vary there are literally hundreds of them). The most popular titles often go back to real wars and conflict that have happened. Something typical of most big first person shooter campaigns is that at the end there is a very dramatic sequence leading to your character (the hero) pulling off an dramatic stunt to get the upper hand on the antagonist and therefore come out on top. Something else that you can expect to see in a first person shooter games are lots of harsh rapid cuts since there is always lots of action in these games.
