Unit 1 LO3: Understand how meaning is created in media products. Codes - The familiar and predictable forms and techniques used by product when creating media texts. These are used to communicate ideas or convey a desired impression. There are two types of code: the technical and the symbolic. Technical codes are created through the way equipment is used to produce a media product. For example, a camera can be used to present a particular character's point of view. Conventions - The commonly accepted ways of doing things. There are general conventions in all products, such as the use of opening credits in audio-visual products. Conventions can be drama specific. Generically speaking - Media products are usually classified into categories and sub-categories. These categories are referred to as a product genre. Targeting A Brief Task

1) Identify three target audience considerations for the brief. One target audience consideration is that Welsh Mocha wants to target both males and females with the product Another target audience consideration is that the want the product to be targeted towards people ages from late teens all the way through into their 40s, they would have to take this into account when making their product The last target audience consideration for Welsh Mocha is that they want to target people with a high disposable income, interest in relaxing with friends, or reading whilst drinking coffee or other refreshments. 2) Because of all of these preferences when designing the product they will have to take care to make sure that the design caters to the target audience. This will all depend on the design of the visual t shirt, logo, text, etc.
