Unit 1 LO3- Meaning In Media Products
Unit 1 LO3: Understand how meaning is created in media products.
Codes- The familiar and predictable forms and techniques used by product when creating media texts. These are used to communicate ideas or convey a desired impression.
There are two types of code: the technical and the symbolic. Technical codes are created through the way equipment is used to produce a media product. For example, a camera can be used to present a particular character's point of view.
Conventions- The commonly accepted ways of doing things. There are general conventions in all products, such as the use of opening credits in audio-visual products. Conventions can be drama specific.
Generically speaking- Media products are usually classified into categories and sub-categories. These categories are referred to as a product genre. By categorising a product its audience will have a set off expectations.
Verisimilitude- How real the world of the story or narrative of a fictional media product appears to the audience.
Rom-com- Forbidden love, an unlikely pair, final ending kiss, something is keeping them apart, there is always a split at some point, someone goes through an embarrassing situation to find love, someone usually moves on but realises how much they miss the other.
