Representation

Lynx The Lynx advert presents women is a very sexualised way. Furthermore the model in this advertisement presents an unrealistic ideology for women. The model is photoshopped in order to look as 'good' as she possibly can. She is being presented as being the typical attractive female, slim waist, long blonde hair, curvy. This

Codes and Conventions

Codes and Conventions: Editing For the exam you will need to talk about the types of editing and the EFFECT that it has on the moving image in the question. You'll need to know all of the following things: Cuts - these are the instant switches between shots, always use the word cut. Transitions - these are switches between shots that take time, dissolves, fades or wipes. Frequency and the rhythm of cuts - how often the cuts happen and whether they happen at the same time as actions out sounds. Specific editing techniques - shot-reverse shot, cross cutting, action matches etc. These are all elements of CONTINUITY EDITING , where editing is supposed to make sense of time and place for the viewer. NON-CONTINUITY  techniques include flashbacks/forward, montages etc. Jump cut - a cut that suddenly shifts position or time unnaturally, in order to communicate that something is wrong.   ...

First Person Shooters First person shooters have been around for many years and are  continuously dominating the gaming seen with huge titles like Call of Duty and Battlefield being some of the most notorious titles. For the sake of this presentation I am going to be basing the typical conventions of on the campaigns. Some of the typical things that you can expect to see from a first person shooter is that in pretty much every single campaign there is a crazy antagonist set on world domination or disrupting world peace. As they player you can pretty much guarantee that you will be playing the role of a solider that has something that puts them above others, also this character is usually male however this is changing in recent times. Games are pushing more  diversity in their games, an example of this is the new Battlefield. One of the lead characters in the game is a female amputee, this caused a ...
What Media do I Consume The media that I consume the most is mobile social media. So far this month on average I spend seven hours on my phone, the vast majority of that is consuming social media. On YouTube I spend an average of 2 hours 49 minutes a day. On YouTube there are adverts before and throughout the video and therefore I consume many pieces of advertising in a normal day. Here is a normal daily routine of the media I consume on a normal day in the holidays: 9:00 AM- I wake up and immediately check my phone for emails, refresh my Instagram and go on Snapchat. 9:30 AM- Usually at this point I will go downstairs and make myself breakfast, if i am cooking I usually put on some music through Spotify whilst doing so. Then whilst eating breakfast I will usually watch a YouTube video of some kind. All Day- Throughout the entire day I am constantly on my phone usually on Snapchat on my phone and then if I am staying in I will watch Youtube throughout the day, Usually Vlogs or...

This was when social media began to rise and people started using social media more and more until we got to the stage we are at now where our lives lite...

Advertisement Through Social Media

Image
Fitness Adverts I have a keen interest in fitness and going to the gym, hence forth I am subscribed and actively watch many fitness bloggers on YouTube. A specific example of one of these channels that I watch is "David Laid". He is a fitness influencer and uploads vlogs of him and his friends going to the gym and giving tips and advice. Once I started watching these fitness influencers I began to notice a change in the adverts that were being presented to me. Rather than seeing usual food, game, or shopping adverts i began to notice that the adverts i was getting were more tailored to me, examples include: gym supplements, gym clothing, workout plans. The reason for this was because I was accepted cookies from YouTube and therefore they were able to use my watch history to be more tailored to me. This then carried on to my amazon where I noticed I was being recommended products related to the gym. Technology Adverts Another time I noticed that I was once again bei...

Knowledge Check

Questions The value chain is how effective horizontal and vertical integration is. Horizontal integration is how a media product is advertised by a conglomerate. Cross-media ownership enables synergy since if a company wants to make one of their pieces of media available to another source of media then they might merge with another company to create the new piece of media. An example if synergy from a media conglomerate would be if a large media company like 20th Century Fox wanted to make one of their films into a game then they may use synergy to merge with a game company such as Activision in order to create the game. Production job, Advertising job,  Merchandising and Distribution. An Editor would be part of the production sector of a company and would edit the piece of media to make it better.

Employment Information Package

Image
Emloyment Information Package Overview Time Warner was a merge of two different companies established in 1990, Time Inc and Warner communications. Although Warner Media now has many spin off companies and is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world they were not always this huge. They started out as merely a film producing company producing films until they were eventually producing some of the hottest new movies. All was going well until in the 1950s they faced a problem that many other film producing companies did. Television was on the rise and was becoming big competition for Time Warner. This happened again later on with video games, hence why Warner Media branched out into the video game industry.Warner Media have kept increasing their portfolio massively and are now responsible for many spin off companies and have branched out into all kinds of media including video games, which is what we need you for. Video games make up a very large portion of media...

Guilty pleasures

My guilty is that I am quite partial to some Taylor Swift, I’m not too keen on her new music but I enjoy listening to some old Taylor Swift. I started to enjoy her music a couple of years ago and to this day I still enjoy it. The reason I think that her music is good is because I think it is some of the last good pop music, I like the fact that loads of people love her music and I truly beleive there is not much better that being at a party and some Taylor Swift coming on. For many years Taylor refused to have her songs put on Spotify as she believed that artists did not get enough credit for there work from Spotify however she now has all of her songs on Spotify. Most of her albums had been highly successful however her most successful album to date is her 2006 album “Taylor Swift”. The album made 5.7 million sales worldwide which although isn’t her most was the album which had the most songs in the worldwide top 40. In my opinion her best album so far was her 2014 album “1989”. The ...
